Catching up on DJ after travel: 10/3 - dropped to 3x (hard!); 10/4 - agree about red herring of hair color; 10/5 - #4 was a tough word, but good pun; today - not too bad!.
Jumble® Crosswords | Oct 2, 2008
Wow, a tough one on this side, too. 7-across was a bit of a head-scratcher, so I left it for last. The final answer was what really threw me, though: I don't think of them as a form of transportation, though of course they are..
Daily Jumble® | Oct 2, 2008
Tough final answer today -- no pun that I could discern -- so I feel very fortunate to have escaped with a 5x on this one. Good luck to all today!.
Jumble® Crosswords | Oct 1, 2008
Yup, pretty easy one today. 38 sec is close to my all-time best here..
Daily Jumble® | Oct 1, 2008
Bah! Fumbling fingers cost me the 5x, too, lauraqt. Best wishes to you, SK (and you too, WK) on the prospects for surgery. Health and happiness to you both..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 30, 2008
Well, I think that I'll have to recant my views on how scores are ordered here under the HIGH SCORES tab. Today, I got 1460 with a time of 30 sec, by definition the fastest time possible for that score. Yet I am listed as #98, whereas 1460 begins at #62. So, what's the ordering principle? I'm baffled!.
Daily Jumble® | Sep 29, 2008
Once again, the weekend's puzzles looked far easier than today's -- which was fairly easy to begin with. I got Sunday's in 19 sec, an all-time low..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 29, 2008
Lucky for me I never read the reviews before solving the puzzle. I'm surprised that there are only 22 5x scores as of this writing..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 26, 2008
Kudos to WK! She sits at #1 right now. Fairly weak pun today, though..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 26, 2008
Why do this at all if you're not competing with yourself? It's all about the challenge, no? StuartE: the original recipe went to the grave with its inventor, but you bake the oysters with parsley, cheese and top with butter, etc. Very tasty, esp. for those who don't eat raw oysters..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 25, 2008
Yup, I was tripped up by the anagram to the solution, too. I got through the clues no problem, but don't generally get enough time to really ponder the picture caption before running out of 5x time -- oh well!.
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 24, 2008
The final answer today was easy: I've been reading that rhyme to my 4 y.o. son every night for the past 3 weeks :).
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 23, 2008
Fairly tough one today: the first few clues took me the longest. At least the solution was a topical and timely..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 23, 2008
The fourth word took me long enough that I lost the 5x on the solution. Boo hoo. Pretty good puzzle overall..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 22, 2008
Yes, pretty easy one today. I don't expect my 44 sec will even get me in the top 50 today :(.
Daily Jumble® | Sep 22, 2008
Sunday's was pretty easy, but Saturday's was a tough one -- tougher than today's to me..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 22, 2008
I'm with the others: I entered the solution still not "getting" it. Yes, there is the barest hint of a pun there, but weak hardly begins to describe it..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 19, 2008
Easy one today. Good luck to all!.
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 18, 2008
Yeah, this was one of those very rare occasions when I fel*****pelled to use the hint on the solution. The clue was just too open ended to provide much guidance..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 17, 2008
Pfffttt. Entertainment trivia is certainly not my strong suit..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 17, 2008
'Twas an overall sluggishness that cost me the 5x today, but at least the pun was a good one..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 16, 2008
boys...: were you not able to post your score today? I don't see you on the High Score list, and with that time you'd be in the top 10 easily..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 16, 2008
Alaskamom: take the total number of letters in the clues and solution, add them and multiply by 50. So, today it's 6 5 5 6 6 7 7 6 8=56*50=2800..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 16, 2008
Funny how things work. After an all-time low in DJ when I was sure that I couldn't unjumble a three letter word, I get one of my better scores here. Go figger!.
Daily Jumble® | Sep 15, 2008
Why is it that the weekend's puzzles always seem easier than Monday's? Would they seem tougher if I took them at the time they were offered? Enquiring minds want to know..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 15, 2008
Ack! 1-across cost me the perfect score today. I just didn't think of that meaning of the clue until I'd solved everything else....
Daily Jumble® | Sep 15, 2008
I'm with you, lauraqt: I saw that "ing" ending and couldn't shake it for ages. Today's pun seemed weak to me, too, but the clumsy wording of the clue is a bit of a tip off..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 12, 2008
I agree about 5-across. I don't go to many movies, so this trivia was well beyond me. The final answer was, for a change, not too hard..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 11, 2008
Wow, no problem with the crossword today but that final question baffled me. Just too many possibilities and not enough information for me. Oh, well..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 11, 2008
WK, the flower got me, too, with its atypical diagraph sound. At least the pun made sense. Regarding squirrels and jays: I recall my first encounter with a squirrel in Van Cortland park in NYC, when I was appalled to see a horribly burned squirrel with blackened fur. My girlfriend laughed when I mentioned this and told me that it was a black squirrel. Who knew?? I repeated this folly when I first saw a cardinal, thinking that someone had spraypainted a bluejay red. :P.
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 8, 2008
Wow. I breezed through the crossword only to be stumped by the bonus word. Too fixated on the Deep South and I missed the obvious ending to the name. Boo hoo!.
Daily Jumble® | Sep 5, 2008
WK: Today's gets a thumbs-up from me despite my all-time low score today. Maybe I got too much sleep or something, but the words weren't unjumbling for me :( Funny thing is #3 was my Waterloo, too, despite #1 being a fairly obscure term and #2 threw me for a loop, too, which is very rare for a 5-letter jumble. And then there was the solution: not a bad pun, but there were too many possibilities for me to contemplate..
Jumble® Crosswords | Sep 5, 2008
Wow! Worst score ever on this game, and I'm still at #41. Must be a tough day....
Daily Jumble® | Sep 4, 2008
Yes, it's a type of vehicle. Think of the rental and hotel shuttles that you see at airports. Easy puzzle today IMHO..
Daily Jumble® | Sep 2, 2008
Fairly good puzzle today, including an actual pun for the final answer. It must have been harder than I thought, as my fairly lame score still got me in at #26..
Jumble® Crosswords | Aug 29, 2008
wineguy: the ordering of the high score lists depend on which you're looking at. The one in the main window is indeed ordered by time of submission, but the one under the high scores tab next to the comments is ordered (AFAICT) by time of completion..
Jumble® Crosswords | Aug 28, 2008
Wow 43 sec is only good enough for 124th place on the high score listing. Tough crowd here!.
Jumble® Crosswords | Aug 27, 2008
A nice guy? He was a crypto-fascist by most accounts. The StraightDope website has a good discussion about it. Maybe my dislike for the guy explains why it took me over a minute to get his name right :(.
Jumble® Crosswords | Aug 26, 2008
One of my best times today, too. Pretty good since movie trivia isn't exactly my strong suit..
Daily Jumble® | Aug 26, 2008
Yes, word #3 proved to be my undoing, too. At least the pun at the end made sense today..
Daily Jumble® | Aug 25, 2008
Count me among the befuddled. Did well on the words (all KOOTS should ace #2) but spent 3 minutes puzzling out the solution for my worst score ever. No pun, barely any humor and no clue from the picture. Pretty lame....
Daily Jumble® | Aug 22, 2008
Grrr... Lost the 5x on the solution. I just couldn't "see" what that lone letter could be for far too long. Still at #39 at the mo, but don't expect that to hold up for long..
Daily Jumble® | Aug 21, 2008
Arg! Back to earth today for me. That missing close quote cost me in the solution: I saw it as two rather than three words and lost precious time trying to unjumble BMAONJE into a single word :(.
Daily Jumble® | Aug 20, 2008
W00t! #3... with a bullet today! My highest ever standing in this game, methinks. WK: My mother's a retired teacher, too, and absolutely despairs about the pathetic state of CA public schools. Sad, so very, very sad....
Jumble® Crosswords | Aug 20, 2008
Whew! Much harder degree of difficulty today IMO, including the self-referential final answer. Good puzzle, though, once I could recall who Charon was..
Daily Jumble® | Aug 20, 2008
Heh. Words 3&4 were a dead giveaway for an old haX0r d00d like myself (or was that flimsy?), probably accounting for my rare 20 sec score :) And words 1&2 described my adversaries as well :P.
Daily Jumble® | Aug 18, 2008
er... if I could count properly, I would have said "12 words in the solution today gives 34*50=1700" So much for my vaunted math skills....
Jumble® Crosswords | Aug 18, 2008
yeah, I made the same mistake trying for the name of the mountains. Fortunately, I reread the clue, but too late for the 5x :(.
Daily Jumble® | Aug 18, 2008
MM - You are correct. The 5x score is simply 50 times the number of letters in the puzzle (22 the solution). Since today's solution has 11 letters, the total is 33*50 = 1650 Today's puzzle got me: that lukewarm starter word just baffled me -- weird!.
Jumble® Crosswords | Aug 15, 2008
MM: I agree. Wow, over 250 5x scores in this game. Cinnam0n: take a look at the other high score listing under the high score tab here. It's ordered (as best as I can tell) by completion time, so the #1 is actually the fastest time, etc. Of course, cheating is very easy in these games, so some of the top scores might be impossibly fast. FWIW, you are #125 in the alternate high score listing..
Daily Jumble® | Aug 15, 2008
Hmmm... either the puzzles the last two days have been easier than the norm, or I have discovered a personal tip to 5x success: sleep deprivation ;-) My subconscious, unhindered by coherent conscious thought, umjumbles with *** abandon..
Jumble® Crosswords | Aug 11, 2008
Yeah, I also took "stick" as a noun for too long. Fortunately, I had just read in the past day or two the tidbit that the name first appeared on a map in 1512 (that map is part of Thomas Jefferson's collection in the Library of Congress, now on display to the public). Back to no recording of my score, though :(.
