Using Photojam 4 Deluxe

What is the 'Home Photos Folder' and what does it mean?

The home photos folder is where PhotoJam 4 Deluxe stores most of your photos. Any photos that you import from elsewhere on your hard drive or from your digital camera will be copied to this folder. Furthermore, if you copy folders of photos into this folder when you are not running PhotoJam 4 Deluxe, these folders will automatically appear as albums the next time you run the program. Lastly, by adding additional Watch folders (under options on the main menu screen) you can have PhotoJam 4 Deluxe manage photos that are outside of your Home Photos Folder.

What is a Watch Folder?

Watch Folders are folders of photos on your hard drive that PhotoJam 4 Deluxe is monitoring. If you add photos to these folders then they will automatically appear in PhotoJam 4 Deluxe. You can add Watch Folders by clicking Options on the main menu screen. However, it is probably easier to store all your photos in one place in your PhotoJam 4 Deluxe Home Photos Folder.

What is the difference between an Album and a PhotoJam?

An Album is a collection of photos that have a common theme. They allow you to organize your photos into groups much like you would do with a bound photo album. A PhotoJam is a musical slide show that lets you watch your photos like an animated music video. You can add animated clipart, speech bubbles and animated transitions between your photos and then easily share your creation with friends and family. To make a PhotoJam out of an Album of photos, click Make, choose the PhotoJam button and then select the photos you want to include in your PhotoJam.

Why isn't the clip art animated when I add it to photos in my Albums?

There are two types of things you organize with PhotoJam 4 Deluxe, Albums of still photos and PhotoJams (which are animated, musical slide shows of your photos). When editing your photos in an Album, the clip art cannot be animated because the photos are still snapshots. To be able to use animated clip art you first need to make a PhotoJam from your Album and then add clipart from the Edit screen of the PhotoJam.

When I delete a photo in PhotoJam 4 Deluxe is it really erased from my hard drive?

When you delete a photo in PhotoJam 4 Deluxe it is moved to PhotoJam 4 Deluxe's Trash. The photo will also disappear from your hard drive. However, the photo will not be deleted until you open PhotoJam 4 Deluxe's Trash and choose to empty it. If you decide that you don't want to delete a photo you can always open PhotoJam 4 Deluxe's Trash and restore the photo. This will put the photo back into the album where it came from and will also make it reappear on your hard drive.

Where and why are my photos copied when I create an album in PhotoJam 4 Deluxe?

When you choose to import photos from your hard drive they will be copied to a folder in your home photos folder. We do this to help you organize your photos by creating a single folder that contains all your photos. This also makes it easy for you to archive your photos by burning your home photos folder to CD.

When I use the photo editing tools are the changes permanent?

No. When you edit your photos in PhotoJam 4 Deluxe, you can always undo your last edit by clicking Undo or restore your original photo by clicking Revert to Original. If you have made edits to your photos and then uninstall PhotoJam 4 Deluxe and choose to remove the PhotoJam 4 Deluxe database then those edits you made will become permanent. In this situation, you should not leave edits to photos that you are not happy with; make sure to restore the original Photo before uninstalling PhotoJam 4 Deluxe.

What's the difference between the "Email a Link" option for an Album or for a PhotoJam?

Email a Link to a PhotoJam uploads your PhotoJam to shockwave and emails a link to the email addresses that you specify. The recipients will see your PhotoJam as you see it on your computer. When you choose to Email a Link to an Album, PhotoJam 4 Deluxe creates a simple PhotoJam from the photos in your Album and uploads it to shockwave. The PhotoJam uses the dissolve transition and has no music, which allows you to quickly and easily share your Album with friends and family.

Why do I have to download files before publishing?

In order to allow PhotoJam 4 Deluxe to download as quickly as possible, we have allowed the files necessary for publishing PhotoJams to be downloaded at a later time. To publish a PhotoJam you must click 'YES' when the application asks you to download these files. The files are 2.5 MB total in size and you will only have to download them once.

Why will PhotoJam 4 Deluxe not let me import images from my digital camera?

There are a couple of things that could remedy the problem that you are experiencing.

Please try both of these suggestions:

1. Install the camera manufacturer’s drivers for your digital camera and restart your computer.
2. After installing PhotoJam 4 Deluxe for the first time, restart your computer. When you launch the application again, attach your camera to the computer and turn the power on the camera.

A dialog box should appear that will ask if you would like to import photos from the camera. Choose ‘Yes’ and select which photos you would like to import from your camera into PhotoJam 4 Deluxe.

How do I get to the 'Touch Up Screen'?

Here are the instructions to lead you to the ‘Touch Up Screen’ where you can edit your photos.

• Open PhotoJam 4 Deluxe and click on the ‘Manage’ Icon.
• Make sure that the ‘Albums’ tab is selected.
• Place your mouse over the icon of the album that contains the image that you want to edit and click on the word ‘Open.’
• Place your mouse over the image that you want to edit and click on the word ‘Edit.’

Here you can edit your photos with tools like ‘Red Eye Reduction’, ‘Auto Fix’, cropping, and painting. You can change the contrast of your image by clicking on the ‘Effects’ tab and selecting ‘Levels’ from the pull down menu.

How do I delete an album or image?

You can delete photos and albums by either dragging them into the ‘Trash’ icon in the lower right hand corner of the application, or placing your mouse over the album or image and clicking on the red ‘X’.

Can I make a PhotoJam out of multiple Albums?

You can create a PhotoJam containing images from multiple albums. Here's how:

1. Open PhotoJam 4 Deluxe and click on the ‘Make’ icon.
2. Double click on the ‘Musical Slide Shows’ icon.
3. Click on the first album that you want to use images from to create your PhotoJam.
4. Check the images that you want to use.
5. Click on the second album that you want to use images from to create your PhotoJam.
6. Check the images that you want to use.
7. Continue until you have checked all of the images that you want to include in your PhotoJam.
8. Click on the ‘Make PhotoJam’ button. Next to the 'Make PhotoJam’ button, you will see the number of images that you have included and the number of albums that contain those images.
9. Name the PhotoJam.

You will now be able to edit your PhotoJam.

How do I return the software if I am not completely satisfied with it?

To request a refund, contact Customer Service. Please be sure to include your name, order number and email address used at the time of purchase. You will be asked to delete all files associated with the product from your system. Please allow up to ten days for your refund to be processed. Troubleshooting

Why can't I use my MP3s when I share my PhotoJam show?

Because of the legal issues surrounding the use of copyrighted music on the Web, shockwave cannot host PhotoJams which use your MP3s.

You can, however, share PhotoJams with your music by using the publishing feature in PhotoJam 4 Deluxe . This allows you to save your PhotoJam as a stand-alone application which can be distributed on a CD or Zip disk. You can also use publishing to export the files necessary to put the PhotoJam on your own website.

To access publishing in PhotoJam 4 Deluxe , click the ‘Show’ button and choose ‘Publish’ in the Show screen .

Why does the music skip when my show changes pictures?

We've seen this occur when using overly large images. Images much larger than 800x600 can cause the music to stutter as they load. Most picture editors allow you to save a copy of an image at a lower resolution. Doing so should resolve this issue.

Why can't I hear any sound when I watch a PhotoJam?

This can be caused by a number of factors:

• Disconnected speaker or headphones inadvertently plugged in
• Improperly set volume levels in the operating system
• Damaged or out-of-date sound card driver software
• Damaged Adobe Flash Player (used by PhotoJam)
• Damaged PhotoJam

Here's how you can address each of these possibilities…

Disconnected speaker or headphones Inadvertently plugged in:

• Check all connections.

Improperly set volume levels in the operating system:

• Check the volume settings of your computer.

Windows

1. Click on the Start button
2. Choose Settings -> Control Panel
3. Double-click on Sound and Multimedia
4. Click the Audio tab at the top of the dialog box
5. Verify your volume settings and adjust appropriately

Mac OS

1. Choose Control Panels from the Apple menu
2. Double-click Sound
3. In the Sound control panel, click Output in the menu on the left-hand side
4. Verify your volume settings and adjust appropriately
5. If you have speakers, verify that the volume is turned up and not muted.

Damaged or out-of-date sound card driver software:

• You can usually get the latest version of your sound card's driver software from the manufacturer of your computer.

Damaged Adobe Flash Player (used by PhotoJam):

• You can test your Flash Player here.

The movie will show if you have any version of this Web Player installed. You will also see the version numbers of the Web Player you have installed in the movies. The most current version is Flash Player 9.

If you do not see both movies, you may need to uninstall and reinstall your Shockwave and Flash Players.

Damaged PhotoJam

You should be able to resolve this by removing and reinstalling PhotoJam. (NOTE: If you use a download accelerator or download manager, such as NetZip, Go!Zilla, or GetRight, please disable it and re-download the PhotoJam installer.) Use the URL in your "Download and Registration Key" email you received.
