Avatars
What is a Game Face/avatar?
Your Game Face is a character that represents you on your profile and throughout Shockwave. You must have a free Shockwave, a Club Shockwave, or a Shockwave UNLIMITED account to have a profile and a Game Face. You can customize your profile by creating an animated avatar or selecting from our set of predesigned game icons. You can save up to 50 animated or predesigned avatars in your Game Face Gallery and change your Game Face as often as you like. In your gallery, click "Set as my Game Face" under the image you want to represent you.
What is the difference between an animated avatar and a game icon/character?
Shockwave offers you two ways to express yourself through avatars: Voki animated avatars or static game icons/characters. Voki animated avatars are created by using the Voki editor which you will find by clicking "Edit my Game Face" on your My Shockwave page. You can change everything from hairstyle to skin color to fully customize your animated avatar. You can even make your avatar speak by adding an audio message that will play whenever the animated version of your avatar appears.
Don't want to create an avatar from scratch? Shockwave also offers you a large selection of predesigned game icons that you can quickly and easily set as your Game Face. While they don't talk, they sure are cute! So what are you waiting for? Get your Game Face on now!
How do I select a game icon/character to represent me on Shockwave?
To have a Game Face, you must have a free Shockwave, a Club Shockwave, or a Shockwave UNLIMITED account. Sign in to Shockwave from the member pod at the top right of any Shockwave page. After you sign in, click the "My Shockwave" tab at the top of any Shockwave page, and you will be forwarded to your personal hub page. On your My Shockwave page, click "Edit My Game Face," which will take you to your Game Face Gallery. In the gallery, scroll down to choose from your selection of game icons, and then click “Set as my Game Face” under the image you want to represent you. You can change your Game Face as often as you like!
How do I get an animated avatar on my profile?
To create a custom avatar, you must have a free Shockwave, a Club Shockwave or a Shockwave UNLIMITED account. Sign in to Shockwave from the member pod at the top right of any Shockwave page. Then, click the "My Shockwave” tab at the top of any Shockwave page, and you will be forwarded to your personal hub page. On your My Shockwave page, click "Edit my Game Face" and you will be taken to your Game Face Gallery. On this page, click "Create New Avatar" to launch the avatar tool, which you can use to create your customized avatar. When you've finished, click "Save" and you will be taken back to your gallery page where your new avatar will appear. Set this avatar as your Game Face to see the animated version on your private and public profile pages. Then send your friends a link to your profile so they can check it out too!
When I launch the animated avatar tool, there is already an avatar character presented to me. How do I change it?
The animated avatar tool presents you with a random starting point, but you can easily change the avatar shown. Simply click the head icon under "Customize Your Character" and select the character you would like to start with. You can then change the hairstyle, mouth, clothing, background, etc., using the options in the tool. You can also adjust the shape, size, or color of any of your character’s features, including skin and hair color, face shape and body size, by using the tools directly under the avatar. When you’re satisfied with your avatar, click "Save" and you will be taken back to your Game Face Gallery where your new avatar will appear. You can edit your avatar at any time by clicking "Edit."
How can I customize my animated avatar?
There are lots of ways to customize your animated avatar. To select a starting character, click on the head icon under "Customize Your Character.” Here you can select a face, choose a hairstyle, and change your character's mouth. To change the makeup level, hair color, skin color, face shape, etc., use the options on the left side of the tool under the character. Click the clothing icon and select a new outfit for your character, and add some bling or give your character glasses by clicking on those categories and selecting from the options available. Change the background by clicking the tree icon and then select from the hundreds of animated or static backgrounds. You can even make your avatar speak by clicking on the "t" key under "Give it a Voice," and typing your message. Then select the type of voice and/or accent you want to apply to your message by using the options under the text box. After your masterpiece is created, click "Save" to add it to your gallery. Save up to 50 animated avatars to swap in as your Game Face at any time.
How do I make my animated avatar speak?
For the ultimate customization, you can add a personalized audio message to your avatar and even choose your character’s voice and accent! To make your avatar speak, click on the "t" key graphic under the "Give it a voice" option. Next, type your message into the text box. You can then apply an accent or particular voice by using the drop down menus under the text box. To preview your message, click the play icon under the text box. When you are happy with your voice and message, click "Done" and you will be taken back to the main editor screen. After you have finished your avatar click "Save" and you will be taken back to your gallery where a static thumbnail version of your avatar will appear. The animated version of your avatar will only appear if you have that avatar selected as your Game Face. The animated version will appear on your private and public profile pages only, while a static version of your avatar will appear in all other cases.
Voice Tip: In some cases, you may need to spell words phonetically for them to be pronounced correctly, especially when using acronyms or slang.
How do I add/edit an audio message for an existing avatar?
You can add an audio message to any of your animated avatars, but not to your static avatars, which are listed under "My Game Icons." To add an audio message to an animated avatar, click the "Edit" button beneath an avatar in the "My Animated Avatars" section of your Game Face Gallery. This will launch the editor with the selected avatar displayed. In the editor, click the "t" key graphic under the "Give it a voice" option. Next, type your message in the text box. You can then apply an accent or a particular voice by using the drop down menus under the text box. To preview your message, click the play icon under the text box. When you are satisfied with your voice and message, click "Done" and you will be taken back to the main editor screen.
I created an animated avatar but see only a flat (static) version in My Game Face Gallery or other places on Shockwave. Why isn't it animated everywhere?
Due to certain display restrictions, the animated avatars will only appear on your My Shockwave and public profile pages. In your gallery listing, in reviews, in chat, and other places throughout Shockwave, a static version of your animated avatar will appear. Other players can click on your avatar to view your profile, see your animated avatar, and hear what it has to say. To make an animated avatar public, select the "Set as my Game Face" option under the avatar in your Game Face Gallery.
In the animated avatar tool, there is a button that says "Import Existing Characters." What is this?
Shockwave has partnered with Oddcast to bring you the Voki animated avatar tool. Oddcast is a third party company that has been creating unique speaking characters on the web for years. Within the Voki animated avatar tool on Shockwave, you are given the option to register with Oddcast/Voki. This is a completely separate account from your Shockwave account and you must agree to the Voki Terms of Service to create this account. Shockwave in no way controls or interacts with the Voki accounts. By creating an account with Voki, you will be able to access any of your Shockwave characters from within the editing tool itself. You can also use your Shockwave created character anywhere on the web where Voki is supported by signing in to the Voki web site with your Voki account information. Please see http://www.voki.com for more information.
I registered for a Voki account but did not receive my validation email. What should I do?
Please use our Contact Us form and fill out as much information as possible regarding your issue. Our customer support team will investigate, along with our partner Oddcast/Voki, and get back to you as soon as possible.
