"HERE COMES SPEED RACER™" TO SHOCKWAVE.COM

Consumer Response Overwhelming, Gameplay Numbers have Surpassed 250,000 in First Three Days

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—Oct. 28, 2005—The beloved characters of the legendary Speed Racer™ animated series made their first ever debut in games this week at Shockwave.com™, the games pioneer that created online gaming. Shockwave.com breaks new ground with the exclusive Speed Racer game by offering a free online version and low introductory price of just $5.95 for a premium download version of the game in a bid to draw young gamers to the online gaming space.

"Speed Racer series is a great title for attracting young male gamers to the value of casual online games," said Dave Williams, General Manager of Shockave.com. "The online game experience delivers hours of gaming fun and doesn?t require a $400 console or a $50 game. In just the few days since this game has been available on Shockwave.com, consumers have quickly made it one of the most popular games on our site."

Gamers first are given a chance to try before they buy the Speed Racer game by playing a free online version. Unlike "free trials" offered on other games, the online version can be played free all the time and any time.

The downloadable version of the Speed Racer game provides full screen gameplay and also includes "extras" that can't be accessed online, like wallpapers featuring the many cars and characters from the animated show. In another breakthrough for casual games, Shockwave.com plans to serialize the downloaded game, meaning new versions of the game could be issued every few months that would feature scenes and challenges from the many different episodes of the TV series.

The debut of the Speed Racer title, an iconic show that entertained three generations of school kids, occurs just weeks before the debut of the new consoles that are expected to top $400 at retail. While the new consoles and its games are creating a stir in the gaming and entertainment communities, Shockwave.com sees new opportunities for casual games to attract more of the game time currently spent on console gaming.

The soaring costs of the new consoles and the game titles, some are expected to sell for more than $50, may price some gamers out of the console market. In addition, online games are infinitely more portable and adaptable to the mobile environment and other devices outside the home where they can be played while traveling, commuting or even while at work. And new titles form iconic brands and legendary series like Speed Racer will increasingly bring young male gamers to online destinations.

The Speed Racer television show first appeared in 1967, when 52 episodes of the series were dubbed into English and syndicated nationally on television. For nearly 20 years, Speed Racer episodes ran in the afternoons five days a week. During this time the world of Speed Racer was etched into the memories of millions of youngsters who would rush home from school to see the show.

The Speed Racer animated series later enjoyed a comeback on TV in the 90's on MTV, and then appeared for almost five years on the Cartoon Network.
