Programming/Marketing Manager - Shockwave

Shockwave.com is a leading destination for online & downloadable games that offers free-to-play (advertiser supported), and premium games (purchased by consumers). We are seeking a Programming/Marketing Manager to oversee daily programming and other player touch points (e-mail/newsletters, partner sites, house ads). This person will also serve as the editorial voice for the site - advising strategy and writing copy for new initiatives and existing products. To be successful in this position you must be able to mix editorial creativity with strong organizational skills - managing day-to-day work while participating in (or leading) multiple longer-term projects, meeting firm deadlines and working across multiple departments. The ideal candidate is passionate, driven and looking for a significant growth opportunity.

Broad knowledge of online programming/marketing, project management and reporting is required. Experience in entertainment and/or casual gaming is a plus. This full-time position will be based in downtown San Francisco and report to the Senior Director of Product & Programming.

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Schedule and execute daily programming on the Shockwave.com site
  • Manage all e-mail communication to members, including weekly newsletters
  • Oversee all new and existing programming-related projects
  • Compile performance reports on programming activities and proactively refine approach based on this data
  • Inform content acquisition strategy by being the expert on what our members are engaging with
  • Balance multiple promotional priorities - make sure all business objectives are being supported appropriately
  • Manage internal house ads from conception through trafficking. Responsible for analyzing and optimizing house ads to increase exposure for games and other initiatives
  • Create thematic programming packages to drive new interest in games and features
  • Maintain and build relationships with third-party gaming and game-related sites and lead viral gaming initiatives
  • Serve as a visible leader among the Shockwave.com community - engaging our members to provide feedback, get involved in features, play new games, etc
  • Play a lot of games! (yes, that is part of your job)

Successful candidates for this position will have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Comfortable running reports from various internal and external source
  • High level of experience in writing promotional/advertising copy
  • 3-5 years experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • editorial
    • email marketing
    • online marketing
    • project management
  • Strong creative knowledge of consumer marketing and the ability to communicate that clearly to designers
  • Gaming experience is a plus
